KGO Extends Broadcast Partnership with Cal

KGO, Cal Athletics and the university’s multimedia rights holder Learfield Cal Bears Sports Properties have extended their broadcast agreement thru the 2019-20 athletic seasons. As part of the arrangement, KGO Radio (810AM) will continue to air Golden Bear football and men’s basketball games.

Since 1974, Cal football has aired on KGO. Men’s basketball games will be presented on the radio station for the fifth straight season. The relationship between the school and radio station is one of the longest broadcast partnerships in sports.

Calling the action for Cal football will once again belong to Joe Starkey. The veteran voice of the Bears returns for his 43rd season behind the microphone. He’ll continue to share the booth with Cal Hall of Famer Mike Pawlawski, who serves as the radio analyst. Todd McKim fills out the broadcast by reporting from the sidelines.

In addition to airing each football game, KGO will feature a one-hour pregame and postgame show. Longtime Bay Area voices Hal Ramey and Lee Grosscup will host both shows.

“Most of our fans only know KGO as the radio home of the Golden Bears,” Director of Athletics Mike Williams said. “We are excited to extend our partnership and keep a familiar place on the radio for our listeners. As our flagship, KGO provides an extensive signal that encompasses much of our state, and we look forward to moving well into our fifth decade together as broadcast partners.”

“Cal Football is the longest-running partnership on KGO 810-AM. We are thrilled to once again extend both Football and Men’s Basketball to fans throughout Northern California,” said Justin Wittmayer, Vice President/Market Manager, Cumulus Media-San Francisco.
