Conor McGahey is the new radio voice of the Colorado Avalanche, taking over for Marc Moser who was named the team’s TV play-by-play announcer for the upcoming season.
McGahey’s roots are in Colorado, having attended the University of Denver and since serving as the hockey play-by-play voice for his alma mater. The broadcaster also worked for the Vegas Golden Knights during their inaugural season as the pregame, intermission and postgame host on AT&T Sportsnet. Furthering McGahey’s familiarity to Denver sports fans, his voice will also be recognized as the public address announcer for the Broncos and Avalanche.
For Conor, the opportunity to become the radio voice of the team he grew up watching is a dream come true. In a message on Twitter, McGahey wrote, “I’m coming home. I was there on October 6, 1995 when the [Avalanche] beat the [Red Wings] 3-2 to win their first game in their history. This is the team that raised me and it is now my true honor to be able to live and breathe every second with you every night. Thank you for that privilege!”
Kenny Miller, executive vice president and general manager of Altitude Sports and Entertaining commented on the decision to hire McGahey during a phone interview with the The Denver Post.
“He’s got the voice of God. Now he’s going to be calling the games for the team he grew up loving. How cool is that? Conor has a well-recognized voice because of the Broncos, University of Colorado, DU, Rockies baseball and everything else he has done. Locally and regionally, you’ve got a home-grown kid who is now making his way with the Avalanche”
The previous radio voice of the Colorado Avalanche, Marc Moser filled the position for the last 10 years. Moser was promoted to the team’s TV broadcast replacing Mike Haynes who resigned after working in the Avalanche radio and TV booths since the team broke into the Denver market in 1995.
