Brent Musburger Named New Radio Voice of the Raiders

The sports media twitter account @FakeRudyMartzke first reported that Brent Musburger would be returning to the broadcast booth as the new radio voice of the Oakland Raiders.

Awful Announcing did some follow up work to add to the story.

The anonymous account has a pretty solid track record breaking sports media news. AA looked for confirmation and received a “Where did you hear that? Let me call you back as I don’t think that’s supposed to be announced yet,” from someone with knowledge of hiring. It’s possible the deal isn’t 100% finalized, but is more or less locked in at this point.

Now the Las Vegas Review Journal has confirmed the news.

Musburger has signed a three year deal to become the new radio voice of the Raiders. He will call the team’s final season in Oakland and their first two seasons in Las Vegas. Brent hasn’t called games since leaving ESPN in 2016. He has been working with the Vegas Stats and Information Network, as a full-time host and the brand’s managing editor. His role with VSiN will not change with the addition of working Raiders broadcasts.

The decision to add Musburger brings to an end Greg Papa’s time as the team’s longtime radio voice. Papa may not have been part of the team’s future plans due to their pending move to Sin City, but the decision to not have him call the team’s final season in the Bay Area given his history with the organization comes as a huge surprise to many in local circles.
