ESPN Signs Mark Teixiera To Contract Extension

It could be another sign that a daily return is around the corner for Baseball Tonight. Mark Texiera has a new deal at ESPN. The three time All-Star and five time Gold Glove winner’s new multi-year deal will have him serving as an analyst on Baseball Tonight episodes that precede special events like holidays and playoff games. He will also be a part of Baseball Tonight: Sunday Night Countdown, which leads into the network’s Sunday Night Baseball.

Teixeira said that he is happy to be returning to what he calls “the coolest job in baseball.”

I’m fortunate to work with so many great colleagues and friends at ESPN who are deeply committed to covering the sport we all love with passion and expertise. I’m so happy to be part of this team.

There is still no concrete word regarding a day-to-day return for Baseball Tonight. Last week, The New York Post’s Andrew Marchand reported that ESPN brass was tepid on committing to daily baseball programming. Their fear is that in the time that ESPN has leaned so heavily into NFL and NBA coverage, baseball fans have committed to MLB Network for news about their favorite sport.
