Shortly before kickoff on Sunday, CBS Sports’ NFL Insider, Jason La Canfora reported Jaguar VP of football operations, Tom Coughlin could return to the sideline as head coach in 2019. On Monday, La Canfora joined 1010XL’s Midday Chalk in Jacksonville to discuss the report, a show he probably won’t appear on again anytime soon.
The show’s hosts, Rick Ballou, Lauren Rew and James Coleman who was filling in, were skeptical of the report considering they have their own sources and Coughlin runs a buttoned up organization. During the interview, La Canfora was questioned more about his sources and reporting integrity than he was about the state of the Jaguars.
A defensive La Canfora went back and forth with the hosts before furiously hanging up the phone, bringing an abrupt end to the segment.
“Are we gonna talk about the situation, or are you going to try and get me to reveal sources,” asked a noticeably annoyed La Canfora while he was being questioned.
Ballou pressed the issue, stating, “I cover this team daily and I’m just wondering where you get that type of information, my point is that it’s not coming out of that building,” which led to a more heated exchange.
La Canfora: “You have no idea where it’s coming from!!”
Ballou: “Well neither do you!!”
La Canfora: “I don’t know who I talk to?!”
Ballou: “I think you make a lot of stuff up Jason, I think that’s how you get a lot of clicks, you make a lot of stuff up.”
La Canfora: “Well here’s what I think, you can lose my phone number.”
La Canfora hung up the phone, ending the interview after just over four minutes. The full segment can be heard here.
