Matt Taylor Named Colts Play-By-Play Man

The Indianapolis Colts announced they have removed the interim tag from Matt Taylor’s title, naming the broadcaster as their full-time radio play-by-play voice.

“This is an incredible honor and opportunity,” Taylor said. “I love everything about Indianapolis, radio, football and the Colts. Those things combined make this a dream position for me. I am very grateful to the Irsay family and the Colts organization for allowing me this opportunity. I’m beyond excited to help enhance the game day experience for Colts fans and share in future great moments.”

Taylor was thrust into the play-by-play role in August after longtime Colts radio announcer, Bob Lamey suddenly retired one week into the preseason.  Soon after Lamey’s retirement was announced, it was reported the broadcaster repeated a racial slur off-air.  The racial slur was allegedly said while the 79-year old Lamey quoted another person in an attempt to share a story from decades earlier in his career.  Even after the report surfaced, both Lamey and the Colts insisted the broadcaster’s departure from the booth was due to retirement.

Taylor joined the Colts in 2012 as manager of radio production.  After serving as the sideline reporter during Colts radio broadcasts, Taylor appeared next in line to take over Lamey’s play-by-play duties.  That came to fruition quicker than anticipated last summer and will continue into the 2019 season.

WFNI ESPN 107.5/1070 The Fan is the flagship radio partner of the Indianapolis Colts.
