Cumulus recently announced it was selling news talk outlet 106.7 WYAY-FM to the Educational Media Foundation. That leaves the city wondering what will happen to the Atlanta Braves’ radio broadcasts.
The Braves have a unique media deal. Dickey Broadcasting’s 680/93.7 the Fan that team’s primary broadcast rights. Cumulus had a separate deal for the Braves’ FM broadcast rights. At 77,000 watts, 106.7 FM is a much stronger signal than the 250 watt translator at 93.7 FM.
Rodney Ho of The Atlanta Journal Constitution reports that the Braves and Cumulus are working on a revised media deal.
106.7 will remain a news talk station for the next few months while Cumulus and EMF await FCC approval of the sale. Once the sale is approved, the station will likely flip to one of EMF’s Christian formats, either Christian AC “K-Love” or Worship “Air1.”
Ho speculates that Cumulus could return the Braves to WNNX. The Rock station served as the team’s FM home in Atlanta from 2010 to 2013.
