Baseball analyst Ozzie Guillen is out at ESPN. He had been with Disney for five years, working for both ESPN and ESPN Deportes in that time.
The former White Sox and Marlins manager posted the news on Twitter and focused on his gratitude towards the network for giving him the chance to stay in baseball even after leaving the clubhouse.
Most of the speculation about what Guillen’s next step might be centers around the Chicago White Sox. He played 13 seasons for the team in the 80s and 90s and then spent eight more seasons in Chicago as the manager from 2004-2011. In 2005 he became the first ever Latino manager to win a World Series, the first for the White Sox franchise in 88 years. Guillen now makes his year round home in Chicago.
Bill Melton, a former White Sox player and analyst on the team’s pre and postgame shows on NBC Sports Chicago, announced during the offseason that he will work a reduced schedule in 2019. That has lead to speculation that Guillen could show up in the analyst’s role on NBC Sports Chicago occasionally, but nothing is official.
