New York residents that are up well before the sun will be losing a familiar voice once the summer ends. Tony Paige has announced that he will leave WFAN and retire in September.
Paige celebrates his 16th year as WFAN’s overnight host this month. This morning he told his listeners that his last show will be September 14, which is three days after what will be his 66th birthday.
“I’ve got things to keep me busy,” Paige told NJ.com’s James Kratch. “A lot of people retire and then they kind of fade away because they have nothing to do. I have a lot of different interests, so I’m not worried at all.”
Those interests include writing for the New York Daily News, where Paige plans to continue work on a freelance basis. He made his name in the writing world covering boxing. He is a former president of the Boxing Writers Association of America and a member of New Jersey’s Boxing Hall of Fame. Paige said he hopes to continue covering the sport. He will also plans to pursue teaching opportunities.
Tony Paige first joined WFAN in 1995. He hosted one night a week until 2000 when he left to pursue another full time opportunity and do fill-in work for ESPN New York. He returned to WFAN in 2003 and currently hosts the overnight show four nights a week as well as a Saturday night show.
