Brian Boesch Named Voice Of Michigan Basketball

The University of Michigan announced Brian Boesch as the new permanent radio play-by-play voice for the Wolverines men’s basketball program.

In January, the previous voice of Michigan men’s basketball, Matt Shepard was named the Detroit Tigers new television play-by-play announcer.  Shepard wanted to continue his work with Michigan basketball, but baseball season beginning during the NCAA Tournament creates a strong possibility for conflict and the University preferred to have one constant radio voice.

Michigan’s new men’s basketball announcer, the 29-year old Brian Boesch had previously served as the broadcasts halftime and postgame host.  Boesch filled in for Shepard last season when the broadcaster took over as the Detroit Tigers play-by-play announcer.

“I know Matt really wanted to keep doing it, and if it was feasible, I think (they) would’ve,” Boesch told The Detroit News. “I’m indebted to Matt. He was willing to get me involved on the broadcast doing when he was doing play-by-play at a level that just doesn’t happen a whole lot in this business. He had a trust in me, and I’m grateful for that.”

In addition to contributing to Michigan basketball broadcasts, Boesch has also worked as the play-by-play voice for the Chicago White Sox Single-A affiliate, the Winston-Salem Dash.  Wolverines’ men’s basketball can be heard on the Michigan IMG Sports Network and their flagship radio station, WWJ 950 AM in Detroit.  Boesch will partner with longtime analyst Terry Mills on the call.
