One of sports radio’s most influential brands is celebrating 28 years on the air today. 670 the Score program Director Mitch Rosen tweeted a thank you to listeners and former staff this morning for being a part of the station’s long, successful run.
While the Score brand turns 28 today, the station has only been on the 670 frequency since 2000. The Score began life on a 5,000 watt daytime-only stick at 820 AM. In April of 1997 The Score moved to 1160. Viacom swapped dial positions for the Score and WMAQ after purchasing CBS’s stations in 2000, moving the Score to 670 and putting the news talker on 1160 before selling it to Salem.
The station marked the special occasion on Thursday with a special morning show. Original Score program director Ron Gleason filled in for Mully and Haugh alongside Matt Spiegal, who first came to the Score in 1994. The duo played plenty of historic Score audio and welcomed guests that helped grow the station into an industry leader.
