The NBA had its players only tournament for NBA 2K aired on ESPN. Major League Baseball is streaming its players only MLB The Show 20 tournament exclusively on Twitch. The MLS isn’t going to be left out.
Soccer may not have the standing in America that basketball and baseball do. The one advantage the MLS does have over the other two leagues is that its video game rights are part of the most popular sports video game franchise of all time.
An MLS players and eMLS players only tournament of EA Sports’ FIFA 20 gets underway Sunday, April 19. The event will be presented as a five-episode series called the eMLS Tournament Special. It will be carried by FS1 and FOX Deportes.
Eight MLS players and eight competitors from the eMLS series are signed up to compete. The five-week event will culminate in a final four played on Sunday, May 17.
The eMLS Tournament Special not only gives Fox new soccer content to air during the Covid-19 pandemic. It also will serve as a fundraiser, with the MLS Works and FOX Sports making a donation to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada during each episode.
