Throughout the last few days or so, ESPN personalities have been very open with sharing their thoughts on the protests in the country and the murder of George Floyd. We took a look at some of those comments on Monday.
On Tuesday’s mid-day SportsCenter, we got to see a dialogue that is probably happening in places all over the country happen on live television. The mid-day hosts were Elle Duncan and Matt Barrie.
Duncan and Barrie have been a common pairing on SportsCenter over the last few years and you usually get a good mix of information and a lot of laughs when they host the show together. Currently, they host the weekday, mid-day show as well as during weekend mornings at 7 a.m ET.
One segment on Tuesday’s show was a little bit different:
In the clip, you hear Barrie share that he is the son of a police officer and how he has viewed things differently since everything has happened in the world over the last week.
Duncan has been very open with sharing her experiences dealing with racism in her life. On Monday, she was on The Paul Finebaum Show to talk about the topic:
People tend to watch SportsCenter at times not only for the information or highlights that they get daily, but sometimes it is the pair of anchors that relay the information and the highlights that make people want to make the choice to turn on the program.
However, on this day, it took a lot of courage for both of them to share those thoughts openly in a public forum. For some, it might have helped start the conversation that a lot of people are happening right now.
While ESPN provides your sports coverage, you also get your sports while learning more about the people talking about it. Give the network credit for allowing their hosts and personalities, including Duncan and Barrie, to use their platform to help create change.
