Kirk Herbstreit To Monday Night Football Gaining Steam

More and more people at ESPN are getting excited about the idea of putting Kirk Herbstreit in the Monday Night Football booth. Andrew Marchand of The New York Post answered a question about who may be on ESPN’s NFL play-by-play team in his media mailbag column on Wednesday. He wrote that Herby calling NFL games “is gaining a little more momentum, though, it is by no means a done deal.”

Previously it was reported that the team of Herbstriet and his regular ABC Saturday night partner Chris Fowler would be a top choice for Monday Night Football if there was no college football season. Marchand says now he is hearing that Herbstreit is a prime candidate even if it means he calls one game on Saturday and another on Monday.

If there is college football and Fowler and Herbstreit are working on Saturday nights, it is only Herbstreit that could be on both the top college and pro game. Marchand reports that Fowler is not likely to want to pull double duty.

Brian Griese, Louis Riddick and Dan Orlovsky all remain under consideration to fill the analyst role. Steve Levy is the heavy favorite to be the play-by-play man for the broadcast.
