Mike Golic is going back to his roots at the Worldwide Leader. Colleague Adam Schefter announced Monday morning that the longtime ESPN Radio morning man will be a part of the network’s college football coverage in the fall.
Golic began his time at ESPN in the television studio, joining the company in 1995 as part of the new NFL2Night on ESPN2. He later moved to NFL Live, a role he continued even during his time partnered with Mike Greenberg on radio.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see the senior Golic make his way to the booth either. He has plenty of experience for ESPN, having been a game analyst for Arena Football for the league in the past. He also made an annual tradition of calling one Monday Night Football game per year with Greenberg as part of the season opening double header.
July 31 will be the last day ESPN Radio listeners har Mike Golic in morning drive. He will exit the slot he has held down for the last 22 years on that day. A little over two weeks later the network will debut a new show with Keyshawn Johnson, Jay Williams, and Zubin Mehenti.
Though Golic will remain with ESPN on the television side, it doesn’t mean he can’t add a radio or podcast deal with ESPN or another national network if there’s interest. He could also appear as a regular contributor on one of ESPN Radio’s new shows. His son and radio partner, Mike Golic Jr., will launch a new show with Chiney Ogwumike in August. If the network would allow it, it seems like an obvious platform to give ESPN Radio listeners their Mike Golic fix.
