The original staff of Deadspin made it an annual tradition to have Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe read the worst sports tweets of the previous year. With those writers launching the new Defector Media earlier this month, they decided to break out the bit early and highlight the worst sports tweets of 2020 so far.
The first tweet to feel Radcliffe’s wrath was Mike Francesa’s absurd eulogy for former Yankee Horace Clarke.
“I can’t believe there are worse tweets than that,” the actor said. “But we just started, so we know there will be.”
Next he turned his attention to WIP’s Howard Eskin. Radcliffe referred to him as “an anti-legend” and noted that while he does not know how to pronounce Howard’s last name, he is “reliably informed that he is a man who exists.”
Radcliffe noted that several fans responded that the Phillies’ left fielder is named Andrew McCutchen and then read Eskin’s follow up tweet saying that he regularly mistakingly calls Andrew “Lawrence” and that “the Twitter police can be dopes.”
Eskin’s original follow up tweet ends magnificently with the phrase “Bite it!”
Radcliffe did not have a particularly harsh reaction. He actually couldn’t help but laugh at the phrase “bite it!” but he did note that Eskin misspelled McCutchen every time he typed it.
