Fox News and some of its staffers are embroiled in a legal controversy involving the death of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.
Rich’s parents, Joel and Mary, filed an emotional distress and tortious interference lawsuit against Fox, Fox News reporter Malia Zimmerman, and wealthy conservative and former Fox News guest Ed Butowsky.
In a story published by The Daily Beast the Rich family is also seeking to depose Fox legal analyst Judge Andrew Napolitano.
Former Speaker Newt Gingrich is also listed as a potential witness for deposition. It’s unclear whether either one of them will actually testify in the case.
In the wee hours of July 10, 2016, Rich was shot to death less than two miles away from the United States Capitol building. Police believe that he was the victim of a botched robbery attempt.
While Rich’s murder remains a mystery, the case prompted conspiracy theorists to claim Hillary Clinton ordered him dead to exact revenge for leaking Democratic emails.
In May of 2017, a Fox News digital report claimed Federal investigators found evidence of WikiLeaks ties to Rich’s computer.
Hannity supported those claims, describing Zimmerman’s story as potentially “one of the biggest scandals in American history.” Despite the network’s retraction. Hannity said he would “retract nothing.”
Host Laura Ingraham criticized the media’s “aggressive lack of curiosity” about Rich’s murder prompting the attempted-deposition of Ingraham, according to reports.
Attorneys for Fox News reportedly pushed back on the idea of Ingraham testifying.
Sean Hannity is scheduled to be deposed in the case Oct. 30. Fox Business host Lou Dobbs, is scheduled for a half-day deposition Oct. 7.
