Spotify Podcasts Could Become Movies With Chernin Deal

Spotify has agreed to a deal with a production company that could potentially turn any of its podcasts into a movie. The deal allows Chernin Entertainment to source Spotify’s vast production library for projects.

Chernin produced the Academy Award winning Ford v Ferrari and other movie hits such as The Greatest Showman, and Snatched. It was founded by Peter Chernin who resigned as president of Fox’s then-parent company News Corp. in 2009.

Chernin Entertainment also produces TV shows and this spring signed a deal to make movies for Netflix.

“Audio is by far the fastest-growing medium in the entertainment business, and with over 250 originals and thousands of hours of content, Spotify has one of the largest libraries of unattached IP that exists in the world today,” Chernin said in a statement.

Spotify has spent hundreds of millions of dollars acquiring podcast studios, hoping to attract new advertisers.

The two companies hope to have the same kind of success turning audio into movies that Walt Disney Co. and Warner Bros. have had turning comic books into movies.
