Bomani Jones Talks About Getting Namechecked In Rap Song

Rapper Westside Gunn released a collaboration with Black Thought of The Roots last week and it featured a namecheck of Bomani Jones.

The song shares its name with popular South Philly late night cheesesteak spot “Ishkabibble’s”. “Mean and never highly questionable like Bomani Jones,” the line says, a namecheck for both Jones and the ESPN TV show he frequently guests on, hosted by Dan Le Batard.

Jones recently joined Joe Ovies and Joe Giglio on 99.9 The Fan in Raleigh, NC, where he was asked about getting a shoutout in “Ishkabibble’s”. It’s a cool nod for Jones, but it’s nothing compared to the feelings he’d have if he was namechecked by Rihanna.

Jones didn’t seem confident in the possibility of connecting with Rihanna on any level, saying “I’d need something that I’m pretty sure I don’t have.” But the sports world loves Rihanna, we’ve seen her attend a variety of football and basketball games, so it’s not completely unfathomable to believe she might recognize one of ESPN’s most recognizable voices and faces.

Jones is a longstanding guest with Joe Ovies in Raleigh, dating back to 2006 when he was a writer for ESPN.com’s Page 2. Now a superstar for ESPN and getting shoutouts by the music industry, it’s great to see the very recognizable Bomani Jones still calling in to Raleigh radio shows after 15 years.
