President Donald Trump’s campaign will target the evangelical political base with a colossal six-figure ad purchase three weeks before the election. The campaign will use conservative programs like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Dennis Prager and Glenn Beck as well Christian networks.
Analysts say support from white evangelical Christians played a big role in Trump’s 2016 victory over Hillary Clinton. More than 80 percent of white evangelical Christians supported Trump four years ago, according to a study from Pew Research.
The support from white evangelical Christians has shifted to Joe Biden, according to Common Good; a non-profit that is trying to get voters to turn against President Trump. The organization said Biden is performing well with Christians in swing states like Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida, and Wisconsin.
Biden’s campaign has spent $15 million to reach Black and Latino voters, according to advertising analytics. That puts his radio ad spend at 56 times that of Trump, whose campaign — prior to the new ad buy targeting people of faith — had spent less than $270,000 on radio.
“The Trump campaign has been active in trying to ramp up the evangelical vote even more in 2020,” CBN’s report says. “The ‘Evangelicals for Trump’ coalition began earlier this year, holding dozens of events around the country. There are also separate, ‘Catholics for Trump’ and ‘Pro-Life Voices for Trump’ coalitions as well.”
