The New York Post’s Twitter account is unlocked after a standoff ensued between the newspaper and social media outlet over a shared article about Hunter Biden; that’s when Twitter decided to lock The Post account, which led to scrutiny sourcing in the news outlet’s story.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey got in heated exchanges with lawmakers over the matter, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) also blasted Twitter’s actions.
Nonetheless, the platform made changes to its hacked materials policy that allowed it to unlock the account.
Twitter safety account tweeted where it stated that it would end its previous practice of “not retroactively overturning prior enforcement.” This resolution means that “decisions made under policies that are subsequently changed & published can now be appealed if the account at issue is a driver of that change.”
Furthermore, the social media outlet explained why they decided to change their policy, allowing The Post to have access to their account.
“Our policies are living documents. We’re willing to update and adjust them when we encounter new scenarios or receive important feedback from the public,” Twitter said.
After the decision came down, The Post responded with a simple tweet, “We’re baaaaaaack.”
