Mediaite Moving to Subscription Model

Changes are coming to Dan Abrams’s media and politics website, Mediaite. The Hill reports that the website will transition to a subscription model with its content moving behind a paywall.

Users will have access to ten stories a month; afterward, Mediaite will prompt them to buy a subscription of $4.99 per month or $44.99 annually. However, the website will offer the first month for free.

Abrams hasn’t funded the website as much as he did when it launched in 2009. However, his plans to expand require more money.

“In the coming weeks, you will see more writers and videos from different sides of the political spectrum and a range of new and distinct Mediaite coverage — from sports to entertainment,” Abrams wrote. “To do that effectively, we need to expand our revenue base.”

Despite moving to a subscription model, Abram wants casual Mediaite readers to see their most important stories, so those will not be behind a paywall.
