CNN Forming Team to Cover Climate Change

CNN is building a new team that’s purpose is to cover climate change, the network announced, per The Hill. The climate change team will consist of five new positions that will staff the group.

Although the network will be putting together a team to provide more detailed reporting on the topic, it won’t be the only source of climate coverage at CNN.

“We are formalizing and expanding our climate coverage with dedicated force,” CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker said.

Although CNN is upping its coverage for climate change, contributors such as Bill Weir will remain the chief climate correspondent. Meanwhile, Brandon Miller, a meteorologist and supervising weather producer, is still leading the climate beat. However, the new positions that will come aboard to work alongside these two will include a digital editor reporting to Rachel Smolkin, vice president and executive editor of CNN Politics. There’s also a Washington reporter covering relevant governmental agencies. Finally, there will be a general assignment writer who reports on “climate-fueled disasters and extreme weather events and trends,” according to Zucker’s memo.
