Barstool Sports Drops Trailer For Kirk Minihane’s True Crime Podcast

Kirk Minihane began teasing a “secret project” for Barstool Sports last fall, and after announcing in December his next podcast venture would be a true crime series, a two-minute trailer was released this week.

Continuing to separate himself from the sports radio format he once thrived in, Minihane has been working with his producer Steve Robinson on the true crime podcast.  This is not the usual hijinks, chaos, mean-spirited and self-deprecating humor Minihane’s listeners have grown accustomed to over the last decade.

Titled The Case – Season One: Boston, the series revisits an unresolved incident from Nov. 14, 1989, when Jennifer Lynn Fay disappeared after she was last seen in Brockton, MA. According to the trailer, the podcast also looks for a possible connection with another female who went missing three decades later.

In the two-minute teaser, an almost unrecognizably serious Minihane states, “this is a story of police corruption, drugs, death. The story of two cities, two girls gone missing three decades apart and the one man who may have all the answers.”

Minihane has traveled to different parts of the country with Robinson for the investigative podcast, as they compile research and interviews for the series, making multiple visits to South Carolina, at times fearing for their lives.

Minihane often touts himself as a genius, so the puzzle-piecing and problem-solving opportunity creates a unique challenge for the self-proclaimed “Podcast Jesus.” With proven success as a sports talker, a strong ability to hit the post, and now entering the true crime genre, Minihane’s versatility is unmatched.

The chilling trailer teases a fascinating product. And with the promotional backing of Barstool Sports, it’s reasonable to expect The Casewill generate tremendous interest from an entirely new audience than the usual Minifans. The first episode drops April 5, with seven more to follow.
