Kim Godwin is New ABC News President

A couple of days ago, reports surfaced that ABC News was in the final stages of contract talks that would result in the current CBS News Executive Vice President Kimberly Godwin taking over as president of the broadcast news division.

The deal is now official as Godwin will become the first Black woman to lead a major broadcast news division, The Hill reports.

“Throughout Kim’s career in global news organizations and local newsrooms, she has distinguished herself as a fierce advocate for excellence, collaboration, inclusion, and the vital role of accurate and transparent news reporting,” Peter Rice, the chairman of Disney General Entertainment Content, said.

Godwin will take over the position in May and will be in charge of two of ABC News’ mainstays, “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight,” along with other shows such as “The View,” “20/20 and “This Week.” Furthermore, Godwin will have the final say over ABC News’ live-streaming, audio, and special programming.

“I have immense respect and admiration for ABC News. As the most trusted brand in news, they are to be commended for the extraordinary work and dedication of the journalists, producers, executives, and their teams across the organization,” Godwin said.
