Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has purchased radio ads that are airing across Kentucky urging people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
In a transcript of the 60-second advertisement obtained by The Courier Journal, McConnell thanks the scientists, doctors, and health care heroes.
“It took less than a year for us to develop three highly-effective COVID vaccines,” McConnell said. “It’s nothing short of a modern medical miracle.”
According to the Kentucky Department of Public Health, only 45% of the population has been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, less than the national rate of 50%.
In the ad, McConnell said “If you haven’t been vaccinated, do the right thing for you — for your family — and get vaccinated right now.”
Reports indicate that 95% of Kentucky’s new COVID-19 cases since March were either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated.
