Impeachment proceedings against New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo could begin shortly after the State Assembly meets in a pre-scheduled meeting Monday, according to Rochester talk show host Bob Lonsberry
Lonsberry explained the situation on his morning show on NewsRadio WHAM 1180 Thursday.
“The process of impeachment is significantly like the federal government with some significant deviations,” said Lonsberry. “I think we may see this role out if Andrew Cuomo does not resign by Monday.”
Lonsberry said his sources indicate that there is enough support from the Republicans and Democrats in the Judiciary Committee of the State Assembly to begin impeachment proceedings.
“The Assembly would have to vote on a resolution of impeachment, then it would pass that vote by a simple majority, Lonsberry explained. “There are 150 members of the State Assembly, that means a majority of the Assembly is 76.”
Lonsberry cited numbers from the Associated Press documenting 80 Assembly members who have either posted on social media or sent out a release saying that they want Cuomo impeached.
Once the committee leading the impeachment investigation believes they have enough evidence, they can recommend to the Assembly that it is time to bring forward articles of impeachment.
