NFL Sunday Ticket is one of the most expensive “extras” DirecTV offers. The base version of the package costs over $290 for the entire season. If you want extras like the RedZone and Fantasy Zone channels and the ability to stream games anywhere, that will cost an extra $100.
According to Streamable, DirecTV is waving that extra fee for some subscribers. The company has been sending emails telling subscribers to the lower tier Sunday Ticket package that they are receiving Sunday Ticket Max, the one with all the extra bells and whistles, absolutely free.
A spokesman for DirecTV did not say why the company is doing this. He did confirm that it isn’t an accident.
Last year DirecTV pulled a similar stunt. The company offered NFL Sunday Ticket for free to new subscribers. In order to placate existing subscribers, many of them were upgraded to Sunday Ticket Max free of charge.
There is an easy conclusion to leap to here. NFL Sunday Ticket may not be a DirecTV product for very much longer. Could this be a goodwill gesture to keep the subscribers that chose the satellite service as their TV provider exclusively for football?
