NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” co-host Nate Burleson is taking a new television gig with “CBS This Morning.”
Moving a former NFL wide receiver and current analyst isn’t a new idea as ABC did the same thing when they brought Michael Strahan over to “Good Morning America” in 2016.
Industry insiders have told the New York Post’s Page Six that CBS wants to copy what ABC has with its morning news show. Whether it’s adding a former NFL player or moving to a new studio near Times Square, these moves aren’t catching anyone in the industry off guard.
“They’re basically copying ‘GMA.’ They’re moving to Times Square, hiring a [Michael] Strahan. What’s next? Cooking segments? They’re clearly in trouble,” one industry source said.
The report also states that those who work at GMA are surprised that CBS wants to imitate what they’ve developed over the last few years.
Furthermore, this might not all be surprising considering their president and co-head of CBS News and TV stations is Wendy McMahon, the former president of ABC-owned television stations.
“It’s interesting that they’ve put an ABC person in place over there, and she’s running the show. I commend them for recognizing a winning playbook and stealing it, but it could be a recipe for disaster,” the ABC source said.
