On Monday, NBC reporter Shaquille Brewster fought off an angry man during his live segment, and nearly a full day since that incident, there are arrest warrants out for charge Benjamin Eugene Dagley, from Ohio.
Dagley is being charged with two counts of simple assault, one count of disturbance of the peace, and one count of violation of emergency curfew.
“We would like to thank the public for coming forward and helping identify Dagley,” the Gulfport Police Department in Mississippi tweeted. The Ohio man is no longer on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, according to police.
Nonetheless, the Gulfport Police Department has also reached out to the Cuyahoga County Adult Probation Department in Ohio for a possible probation violation. Dagley’s probation from a prior charge prevented him from traveling.
MSNBC President Rashida Jones praised Brewster’s approach to the situation.
“Like the consummate professional, he did not let someone intimidate him from doing his job,” she said. “We’re glad he and the team are safe, and we couldn’t be more proud and supportive of their work.”
