Marc Malusis was on the air on WFAN Sunday morning. It was the first time he had appeared on the station since the station announced Moose & Maggie would be replaced by Tiki & Tierney.
While the Sunday morning show is usually reserved for talking NFL football, Malusis did address the end of the weekday show and took the high road.
“Management made the decision to go with a new midday show, which is tough, but I do want to thank management — old and new, Chris [Oliviero], Spike [Eskin], Mark Chernoff — for the opportunity that I was afforded the last two years to do the midday show,” Malusis said. “I was the last to know, which is hard, but right now all I can control is what I do and how I respond, and I will. I want to thank everyone who reached out to me over the last few days. It was overwhelming. The love and support means more than you guys will ever know. I have not gotten back to everybody, but give me time, I will.”
WFAN listeners have heard Malusis on the station in some form or another for the last 21 years. He called the previous 72 hours “crazy,” but noted how lucky he was to have that kind of run on the station.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone out there that’s listened to me over the years. I’ve been here 21 years. WFAN has been my life and WFAN means the world to me.”
The New York Post made headline news out of the fact that Malusis did not mention his former partner Maggie Gray in his thanks. But to be fair to Malusis, Gray had a chance to talk about her future the day before. This was his turn. Just because she wasn’t mentioned is no reason to infer anything.
Gray will partner with Andrew Perloff of The Dan Patrick Show for a new afternoon drive show on CBS Sports Radio. Malusis says he will still be heard on WFAN, continuing his Sunday show with David Diehl. He and his bosses will figure out any other plans in the background.
They screwed Marc,he deserved better. That’s what stinks about non union jobs, seniority means zero. He’s really knowledgeable at his craft, callers like him,co workers like him,I just don’t get the dismissal at all.bad job by wfan,he’s got small kids also.but he’ll be fine employment wise, someone will pick up his talents for sure.. Good luck Marc..
