There is no more popular sports radio across the state of Alabama than ESPN Radio’s The Paul Finebaum Show. It was the perfect forum for University of Georgia alum and Finebaum’s ESPN colleague Elle Duncan to gloat after her Bulldogs defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game on Monday night.
Duncan was on the show Tuesday afternoon to talk about UGA’s first national title in 41 years. She said that plenty of people had sent her direct messages on social media demanding she stay humble and “act like you’ve been there before” with her public celebration.
“I would just like to say ‘shut up!’. Shut the hell up! I haven’t been here before! I’ve never seen the Georgia Bulldogs win a national championship. And as such, it is Troll Tide for as long as I want,” the SportsCenter anchor said.
Finebaum couldn’t help but laugh at the sentiment. Elle Duncan wasn’t done though. She said that this is a moment she has been waiting her whole life for and she isn’t going to feel bad about feeling joy.
“This idea that we’re supposed to be graceful losers or graceful winners is such a joke, Paul. I’m not a little kid. Save that for your children while they’re learning or while they’re being reared up. I’m a grown woman! I’m talking all the mess. I want all the smoke! Let’s go!”
Duncan had advice for her fellow Dawg fans too, although they may want to proceed with caution if they choose to follow it.
“Go up to any Crimson Tide fan and say anything you want,” Elle Duncan said. “Be petty. Embrace it! We don’t know if it will be another 40 years.”
