Barstool Sports is no stranger to the world of boxing. The company has been staging its Rough n’ Rowdy pay-per-view matches for years. Now, Barstool’s involvement with the sports moves to one of the biggest stages in a partnership with DAZN and Canelo Alvarez.
On May 7, Canelo Alvarez is scheduled to fight Dmitry Bivol in Las Vegas. Those watching the fight through DAZN will have the option to listen to a call of the entire card featuring Dave Portnoy, Big Cat, and four other Barstool personalities.
Robbie Fox, who wrote about the event for the site says he doesn’t have a lot of details to share right now, but is optimistic for what the broadcast could be.
“Dave and Big Cat are the funniest commentary duo in the world for Rough N Rowdy and I think taking that exact product and dropping it in the highest stakes position possible with the best boxers in the world is such a hilarious concept,” he wrote.
Fox will head to California to embed with Bivol’s team as he trains for the fight. Barstool personality Large is already with the Canelo camp. Both are set to make appearances with Portnoy and Big Cat on the May 7 broadcast.
“You want the sweet science, the analysis, and stats?” Fox writes. “Keep the DAZN team on. You want a couple knuckleheads having a great time and possibly making fools of ourselves while watching some unreal fights? Welcome to the Barstool Sports Commentary feed.”
