CNN’s Paul Begala is going after Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley for a recent senate hearing that the contributor says was the politician “beating up on trans kids” by following a “transphobic” line of inquiry.
Last week, Hawley and law professor Khiara Bridges had a heated exchange during the hearing, where Bridges said that Hawley’s line of questioning was “transphobic.”
“Under Josh Hawley, Missouri is fourth in gun deaths, 40th in life expectancy,” Begala said, per The Wrap. “It has above the national average of child poverty, below the national average of median income.”
“He’s doing a terrible job on crime, health care, jobs for his state. And so he wants to beat up on trans kids, the most vulnerable people in our society? It’s despicable.”
CNN’s David Urban did chime, defending Hawley’s question on Sunday’s edition of “State of the Union.” He stated, “Republican voters are going to agree with Josh Hawley asking the question he asked the professor,” and mentioned that Bridges was “aggressive” in her reply.
Begala would respond to Urban’s defense of Hawley and listed the Missouri senator’s failures, including his subpar performance in “crime, health care [and] jobs,” and commented that his preference to “beat up on trans kids” was “despicable.”
