After it was announced Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was suspended for the first six games of the upcoming NFL season, Ken Carmen and Anthony Lima took calls from Browns fans for their reaction to the news, and Pittsburgh’s 93.7 The Fan host Andrew Fillipponi listened in and didn’t like what he heard.
“Josh in Florida” called into The Ken Carman Show with Anthony Lima Monday morning and immediately shouted “Super Bowl! Super Browns!’, before the show hung up on him.
“We celebrate things that are meant to be celebrated, and we can be a buzzkill at times when there needs to be a buzzkill. He wanted to do ‘Super Bowl, Super Browns’,” Lima said.
“Can I have a day here for a second, please? ‘Cause tomorrow they ain’t gonna be listenin’. The ‘you know who’s’ out there ain’t gonna be listening. You know damn well who I’m talking about,” Carman said.
“Those people who that watch golf tournaments and think ‘what’s the phone number? He just committed a violation!’ people. ‘My goodness that’s a hazard. You can’t do that’,” Lima replied.
“You’re putting me in an awkward situation here, Josh,” Carman said.
It just so happened that Andrew Fillipponi, host of The PM Team with Poni & Mueller on 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh tuned in just in time to hear that call.
“That’s misrepresenting completely,” Lima argued. “I am not gonna hear Pittsburgh trash try to demonize us today. That is not gonna happen. Maybe I’ll hear it from other corners of the world. Probably not Houston either. I don’t really wanna hear from them today, either. I understand that a lot of people think that this is too light. Fine. Fine. Air your grievances. Not gonna hear it from people in Pittsburgh.”
“There’s a lot of teams with skeletons in their closets. I don’t know if you really wanna go doing that. But if ‘Poni wants to do it, ‘Poni wants to do it,” Carman added.
Carman and Lima shot back at Fillipponi, pointing out his tweet from Friday about the love the city of Pittsburgh held for former quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback was scheduled that evening to throw out the first pitch at the Pirates game. Roethlisberger was accused of sexual assault twice during his playing career and in 2010 was originally suspended six games for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, like Watson. That suspension was ultimately reduced to a four-game suspension.
