A Promise to Save America From ‘Living Hell’

So much has gone wrong, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to the economic, kitchen-table pain being forced on Americans in recent years. But there has finally been a commitment to change course and fix the problems.

Republicans last week unveiled their “Commitment to America,” a series of legislative promises they say they will put forth if voters give them control of the United States House of Representatives in November.

On Friday night’s edition of Rob Schmitt Tonight, just before former President Donald Trump took to the stage for his Save America Rally in Wilmington, North Carolina, Representative Ralph Norman of South Carolina joined the Newsmax program to discuss the GOP’s plans to rescue the country from the current state of affairs.

Schmitt began with a sound byte of House Minority Leader, Kevin McCarthy, highlighting the promise to repeal the Democrat Party’s recent move to hire an additional 87,000 IRS agents during Friday’s announcement of the Republican initiative.

“How do you do that,” Schmitt asked Norman. “They obviously just got this big bill passed, they’re so proud of it. Their Inflation Reduction Act, which doubles the size of the IRS. How do you just take that away?”

“Well, it’s going to take some bold action, Rob. And I was happy that the pillars for Commitment to America is out there. We know what we have to do. Strengthen the economy, national security, protect our freedoms and government accountability. But it’s gonna take more than just slogans,” Norman said. “We’ve got to put the details to it. As they say, the devil’s in the details. But I’m optimistic that we will. This is the first step of laying out a blueprint of what Republicans will do. And the thing about it, on the Commitment to America, the Democrats are doing everything to destroy the pillars that made this country great.”

The Republican outline is much in the mold of a similar legislative agenda put forth by the party during the 1994 congressional election season, under the leadership of former House Speaker, Newt Gingrich.

Schmitt honed in on one of the more painful parts of President Biden’s economic crackdown, asking Norman what his party would do differently.

“When he talks about gas prices, his administration intentionally spiked the price of fuel in this country. We all know it. The actions were very clear. They wanted to push green energy in order to push that agenda. You gotta get people out of regular fuel cars and you gotta get them buying electric cars and buying solar panels and all that. Then they panicked and lowered gas prices when their poll numbers tanked by emptying out our reserves, and then here is the President today talking about gas prices,” Schmitt said, cutting to a clip of the President boasting about bringing down gas prices. “You raise em up to a ridiculous level and then you’re putting us at risk by emptying our reserves to bring them back down, intentionally just for political reasons, and then you brag about it. I mean, it’s astonishing to me.”

“Everybody knows when gas prices were going up, who did you blame it on? Vladamir Putin. Now when they’re coming down, why aren’t you giving him credit? No, it’s laughable if it wasn’t so serious. The only way you’re going to get gas prices down in this country is to use our natural resources here in America,” Norman said. “We’ve got a 300-year supply of natural gas and oil. And he’s buying, the sad part about it, he’s buying from OPEC countries that hate America. So everything is self-inflicted by this administration. The last twenty months have been a living hell and we’ve got to stop this. And it comes with bold action. It comes with putting people in Congress who will do something, and I think the American people are going to do that.”

Reputable polling indicates the American people, indeed, will make that choice and give Republicans more power in roughly 40 days. They’ll then wait to see if GOP politicians will keep their commitment and fight back on their behalf.
