The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Houston Astros in the World Series over the weekend, and Philadelphia sports radio host Angelo Cataldi couldn’t help but poke a little fun at FOX Sports in the process of recapping the loss.
During the World Series, FOX Sports aired a story detailing how Phillies Hitting Coach Kevin Long had helped the team transform itself from its previous losing ways and helped bring the club to the fall classic. The club was subsequently no-hit during the game, and score 3 runs in the final two games before losing.
“The timing of the homage FOX did for Kevin Long was not perfect,” Cataldi said. “It was right after the Phillies had won the game they hit five homers. 7-0. And they went ‘You know what? It’s time we did a tribute to Kevin Long’. He once worked with ARod (Alex Rodriguez). In fact, now that I think of it, Kevin Long worked with ARod on the Yankees when ARod was cheating with steroids. ARod came out after, and they did this big feature on him.”
After Rhea Hughes described the story on Long, Cataldi asked “Was there any indication — from any of these authorities on baseball — that Kevin Long placed an actual priority on hitting the baseball? Did that ever come up at all?”
