CNN is going in-house to fill its newly created chief global affairs correspondent position. The network announced they are elevating Matthew Chance to fill the role on Tuesday.
Chance, the network’s former senior international correspondent based in Moscow, covered significant stories in Ukraine, Afghanistan, the Middle East, the Far East, Russia, and Chechnya.
“Just announced: @mchancecnn has been promoted to Chief Global Affairs Correspondent for @CNN,” Lauren Cone, Senior Director of Communications for CNN International, tweeted on Tuesday. Matthew has covered the world for CNN for more than 20 years, often reporting under extremely challenging circumstances. Congratulations, Matthew.”
Furthermore, Chance has been reporting extensively on the war in Ukraine for over 18 months, covering Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, and the entire region for CNN.
Chance has been a CNN reporter for over 20 years and was recently nominated for Outstanding Continuing News Coverage: Short Form for his reporting on Ukraine, earning numerous accolades.
He was also nominated for an Emmy for his live interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shortly after Russia’s invasion.
