The Class of 2024 for the New York State Broadcasters Association has been announced and includes two well-known names to New York sports fans. Longtime WFAN and current FS1 host Craig Carton and John Murphy, longtime voice of the Buffalo Bills are among the honorees who will be honored on October 23.
Carton hosted alongside Boomer Esiason at WFAN for 10 years on Boomer and Carton and did three years with Evan Roberts in the afternoons prior to that. Carton also worked in Buffalo and Syracuse and had stops in Cleveland, Denver and Philadelphia.
Today, Carton hosts The Carton Show on FS1. He also hosts a public service show on WFAN about gambling addiction
“Grateful for being inducted into the NYSBA HALL OF FAME,” Carton posted on his X account. “So many people played a role but nobody more than Chris Oliviero. Feels like yesterday I was making $12k doing overnights in Buffalo. 33 years later this is a blessing and proof that dreams and 2nd chances can come true. It all started at Z89 at Syracuse and then WGR in Buffalo – all these years later this is such an amazing gift. I always knew I’d be reunited with Boomer Esiason one day and this is the perfect place for it. Never give up and never stop fighting for your dreams and goals.
“And of course thanks to my FOX Sports family for allowing me to realize the dream of hosting a national tv show from the heart of midtown Manhattan- great things ahead.”
Murphy spent over 35 years on the Buffalo Bills radio broadcast team. He started out as the color analyst but then did the play-by-play from 2003-2022. Murphy announced in early May he would not be returning as the lead announcer due to complications from a stroke he had in 2023. Murphy did say he hoped to have some role with the game day broadcasts.
He also hosted “The John Murphy Show” (later “One Bills Live”) on Buffalo’s WGR, and “One on One Sports” on WBEN-AM. For more than 20 years, Murphy also appeared on Buffalo television, as a sportscaster and then Sports Director at WKBW-TV and WIVB-TV.
