Union Broadcasting has announced that Sports Radio 810 WHB will be launching a new simulcast of its programming on Cumulus-owned 103.7 FM beginning on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 a.m. CST. The Kansas City sports talk station, which features weekday programming and marquee sporting events, will expand access to hear the programming in the local area. Games that will be broadcast over the airwaves include prime time football properties, Super Bowl, NBA Finals, PGA Championship and other national events in partnership with ESPN Radio, Westwood One and Learfield Communications. Moreover, local coverage provided on the FM simulcast will consist of University of Kansas Athletics, the Kansas City Monarchs, Sporting Kansas City and Kansas Speedway among others.
“Sports Radio 810 WHB is an iconic Kansas City brand,” Chad Boeger, president and general manager of Union Broadcasting, said in a statement. “It’s bigger than an FM or AM radio station. We are locally owned and operated, dedicated to promoting sports throughout the Midwest. The addition of 103.7 FM is a strategic extension of Sports Radio 810 WHB. This move provides yet another way for our dedicated listeners to connect with the biggest games, breaking news, and the hosts and teams they love, from national headlines to local favorites, all from Kansas City’s sports media destination. We thank Donna Baker and Cumulus Media. We have been working well over a year on this long-term partnership.”
Sports Radio 810 WHB has been broadcasting in the Kansas City metropolitan area for more than 25 years, reaching over 42,000 square miles spanning portions of five states. The station will continue to maintain its digital presence through its 24/7 live audio stream, video functionalities and content created exclusively for social media platforms. Furthermore, Union Broadcasting will commence broadcasting to a second FM frequency in the marketplace, granting the listener more ways to consume sports media content.
“We are excited to partner with Sports Radio 810 WHB to bring this powerful simulcast to 103.7 FM,” Donna Baker, regional vice president for Cumulus Media Kansas City, added in a statement.
Sports Radio 810 WHB recently celebrated 25 years of broadcasting in the sports talk format and was awarded the Media Mix’s Kansas City Radio Station of the Year honor earlier in the fall for the second time in two years. In addition, Steven St. John, who hosts New Day with SSJ, was named as Media Mix’s Kansas City Radio Host of the Year as well. The station continues to provide comprehensive coverage of teams in the area, including the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Kansas Jayhawks, through its array of sports talk programming.
“Sports Radio 810 WHB is more than just a radio station – it’s a community,” Boeger said in a statement. “We are owned by Kansas Citians, for Kansas Citians, and we remain dedicated to delivering the very best in sports coverage to our listeners and viewers as we truly are powered by fans.”
