Speculation continues that Warner Bros. Discovery will consider putting CNN up for sale, and former CEO Jeff Zucker could be the leading candidate to purchase the struggling outlet.
According to a report from The New York Post, Zucker is viewed as the leading candidate to place a bid to purchase the cable news channel.
“Jeff is likely going to make a bid this fall to purchase,” said a source with knowledge, while a source close to the former CNN executive said, “I wouldn’t count Zucker out”. The 58-year-old is reportedly holding a grudge about his exit from the company after failing to disclose a consensual relationship with a colleague.
An industry inside claimed that a sale of CNN by Warner Bros. Discovery wouldn’t be out of the question next year, saying the company sees “CNN as a non-core asset. Once Warner reduces its leverage it will be more willing to sell non-core assets including CNN.”
Zucker, who is now the CEO of venture capital firm RedBird IMI, could also be a potential buyer for the CBS television network according to the Post.
