Frank Morano is leaving his role on the nationally syndicated overnight news/talk radio show The Other Side of Midnight after winning election to serve on the council of Staten Island earlier this month.
The program originates from 77 WABC in New York and is syndicated by the company’s Red Apple Audio Networks.
Morano won a special election to a seat on the council of the New York borough. However, he now shifts his focus to the primary election next month, and — should he win that election — would then need to run a third campaign for the general election in November.
He shared that with all of those irons in the fire, the time is right to leave his program.
“When I was elected, I had expected to continue hosting my radio show until the swearing-in,” said Morano. “However, due to concerns about equal-time rules for the upcoming election and uncertainty around what outside work I’ll be allowed to do once I take office, the decision was made that I would no longer host ‘The Other Side of Midnight’ and would step away from the Red Apple Audio Network for now.
“This wasn’t a decision I made lightly—or one I made at all, frankly—but I completely understand the reasoning behind it,” he continued. “I’m incredibly grateful to the station’s ownership and management for the opportunity to do a show I loved, with a team I respected, for an audience I adored… I do hope to be back on the radio in some form soon. But for now, I’m off the air.”
The Other Side of Midnight airs from 1-5 AM ET. The program — which launched into syndication in July 2022 — had been picked up by stations like WGN Radio in Chicago, KMOX in St. Louis, and 830 WCCO in Minneapolis, among others. WABC hosts James Flippin and Dominic Carter have been hosting the daypart nationally in Morano’s stead.
