Ron Darling Signs Multi-Year Extension With TNT Sports

"I feel like I’m a caretaker for these amazing athletes to chronicle what they do in October, and it’s a blessing for sure"

TNT Sports has secured the future of one of its most familiar baseball voices. The network has signed a multiyear contract renewal with longtime MLB on TBS analyst Ron Darling, ensuring he remains in the booth for both regular season and postseason coverage.

Darling, 65, has been a central figure on the TBS baseball team since 2008. Working alongside play-by-play partner Brian Anderson to call some of the sport’s most memorable moments. He first joined Turner Sports in 2007 as a guest studio analyst during the playoffs. He then moved into his current role the following year.

“I was just like I can’t believe it. I’m going to do national games,” Darling recalled in an interview with Sports Business Journal. “I was so excited and wonderfully naïve about having a chance to be a national broadcaster. I feel like I’m a caretaker for these amazing athletes. To chronicle what they do in October, and it’s a blessing for sure.”

TBS aired 24 Tuesday night games during the 2025 season. The network will handle exclusive coverage of the National League Division Series and American League Championship Series this October. TNT Sports’ rights deal with Major League Baseball runs through 2028. Though the league’s national packages are set to be renegotiated in three years.

Darling’s favorite call came in 2017, when Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner launched a walk-off home run in Game 2 of the NLCS. Coincidentally on the 29th anniversary of Kirk Gibson’s iconic 1988 World Series homer.

The former Mets pitcher also continues to serve as part of SNY’s award-winning local booth alongside Gary Cohen and Keith Hernandez, a partnership that just marked its 20th anniversary. Darling credited the TNT Sports production team for creating a family atmosphere and said the collaborative effort behind the camera makes the job as rewarding as the action on the field.
