Changes are taking place at 102.3 KRMG in Tulsa, as morning show host Dan Potter has exited the news/talk station.
Potter has spent the past 17 years working for the station, but told the Tulsa World that in a meeting with new owner Dr. Robert Zoellner, he was informed the station would not be renewing his contract.
“Our paths hadn’t crossed yet in his ownership,” said Potter. “Shook his hand, sat down. He said, ‘We’re not renewing your contract.’ They handed me a check, and security showed me out of the building.”
Dr. Robert Zoellner acquired 102.3 KRMG — along with K95.5, Mix 96.5, and 103.3 The Eagle in Tulsa — from Cox Media Group as part of a multimillion-dollar deal.
Of his 17 years with the station, Potter had spent the past 13 years working in morning drive.
Before joining 102.2 KRMG, Dan Potter worked for nearly 20 years at WBAP in Dallas, along with other stops in the Midwest.
The KRMG Morning News airs from 5-9 AM on the station. No firm plans have been released by the station on who will permanently replace Potter in the daypart.

Well, while I had decided to purchase a couple pair of eyeglasses from Dr. Zoellner, I have changed my mind. My decision is not based on the Doctor’s desire to change the station. It is based more on the way that Potter’s termination was handled. I am very sad. In my 30+ years in OK, there has been only one who was equal to Potter, and that was John Erling. But I’m done. Having said that, I wish only the very best for KRMG.
Totally agree. This was VERY unprofessional. Mr. Potter deserved better.
I agree. Dan Potter was excellent and has a strong following. Possibly one of the other radio stations can pick him up! I have always been a fan of KRMG and have listened since John Erhling was the morning host. Dan should have been told why his contract was not renewed. He has won awards for the station and, for him to be let go, it should have been a major issue. It is one thing to not agree on money, or maybe his absence while doing announcing for bands, but at least a fair and reasonable discussion should have been had. This may be the beginning of a number of changes that may be in the works that many of us won’t like. However, for morning drive, if I can pick up Dan Potter on another station, that is where I am going.
Sad.
it’s a bad way to run a business. but in today’s world. Follow the money. You’ll get almost all the answers. I’ll listen to Dan. If another local station picks him up.
I listened to the morning news for one reason – Dan Potter. The way he was treated is wrong. And WHY? Are you so greedy, Dr Zoellner, that you had to fire Dan because you wanted to cut expenses? I’m not the only one that has listened to this station every morning for YEARS because of Dan Potter. We will follow Dan.
I will just listen to kxoj now out of Tulsa. And wait until I get home to get my news. Bad move on zoellner’s part in my opinion. maybe I will get xm radio to get my news. you suck zoellner
Personally I didn’t think the show was good when he started. He replaced a previous great show. New owners should redo the format, it just is chaos to listen too, Matt has the radio voice. I got tired of hearing Dan plug his name everywhere. The show spends too much time on the weather updates and weather people wasting air space. More genuine talk needed, not a collage of spastic stuff, focus on higher level news, or just put Jimmy Faila on.
Yep, you have out done yourself Zoellner negatively. Word will get around and YOU will be the one responsible. I have been a long time listener of KRMG (since 2009) so happy I never gave Zoellner any of my hard earned money. But good luck, hope it’s a difficult road for you to climb to your greed.
Frankly, I am very pleased. Dr. Robert Zeller read my mind. As my husband every morning I said get Dan the little drummer boy off of Tulsa air! Tulsa can do better than a man on our main radio station talking about Dad gun high school marching bands. He needs to go back and be in a band. He talked about it so much. We have more to offer on morning shows when people are commuting that talking about Dan judging high school bands thank you Dr. Zeller we needed a change of 17 years ago one day after Dan started.
