Red Apple Media, the owner of 77 WABC and other AM stations, has purchased another signal. WCRN 830 in Massachusetts is joining the stable.
What We Know: Red Apple Media has purchased WCRN 830 in Boston. Currently, the station airs a mix of brokered content and syndicated conservative talk radio shows. WCRN-AM is a Class B signal with 50,000 watts of power. It is licensed to Worcester, Massachusetts, roughly 40 miles west of Boston.
What Remains Unclear: What the company’s plans for the station include. It remains to be seen if 77 WABC programming will be implemented in the lineup on WCRN. In past instances when Red Apple Media has purchased stations, it has added the full lineup from the New York news/talk station. Those previous purchases, however, have included stations in the greater New York area.
What It Means: It marks another expansion for Red Apple Media. The company has purchased other AM radio stations to complement the flagship, 77 WABC. It also comes after a recent announcement that the company would launch the Worldwide News Network. Former 1010 WINS anchor Lee Harris was hired to serve as the Vice President of News for the new venture.
