Hall of Fame broadcaster Blair Garner is heading home. Connoisseur Media announced Garner joins Country 97.9 KGNC in Amarillo, Texas, handling afternoons weekdays from 3-7 p.m.
What We Know: Garner brings nearly three decades of nationally syndicated country radio experience to the role. He holds dual Hall of Fame status — both Country Radio and National Radio. Additionally, his résumé includes nine Billboard Broadcast Awards, three ACM Awards, and more than 4,000 celebrity interviews. Notably, Garner grew up in nearby Canyon, Texas, and launched his broadcasting career there at just 17.
What They Said: Operations Manager Jeff Scott framed the hire as both a talent win and a homecoming. “He grew up in the area, he’s a true pro, and a perfect fit for us,” Scott said. Furthermore, Scott emphasized Garner’s caliber as a key factor, calling the addition a direct reflection of the station’s standards.
What Remains Unclear: The specific programming direction Garner will bring to afternoons is still unknown. Moreover, whether his role expands beyond local drive into any syndicated capacity has not been addressed. How quickly listeners will respond to his return also remains to be seen.
What It Means: This move signals that Connoisseur Media is doubling down on live, local talent. Rather than leaning on voice-tracking or syndicated fills, the company invested in a recognizable name with genuine community roots. Consequently, the hire reinforces a broader industry argument — that authentic local connection still drives audience loyalty in a streaming-saturated landscape.
