Bucky Jacobsen is done with mornings at KJR. The former Seattle Mariners slugger won’t return to the Chuck & Buck show after months on leave.
What We Know: Jacobsen joined KJR’s morning show in March 2018, teaming with Chuck Powell for more than seven years. He stepped away in April, citing health issues. Jacobsen confirmed over the weekend that he won’t resume daily hosting duties. The exit ends a partnership that helped define Seattle sports radio’s morning drive.
What They Said: Bucky Jacobsen (via X): “My time away for medical reasons gave me an opportunity to reflect on my priorities and how I want to spend this next chapter of my life. After a great deal of consideration, I’ve decided not to return to the daily commitment of the morning show. This wasn’t an easy decision because I care deeply about KJR, the morning show, and the listeners who’ve been part of this journey. I’m grateful to the station for their support and willingness to work through this process with me. We’re continuing to explore ways I can remain involved with KJR in a capacity that better fits my life and priorities today, and I’m looking forward to seeing where those conversations lead.”
What Remains Unclear: KJR hasn’t named a permanent replacement for the show’s second chair. In addition, details about Jacobsen’s future role at the station remain undefined.
What It Means: Jacobsen’s departure for health reasons is unfortunate. Moreover, Jacobsen’s departure forces KJR to retool a show built around his chemistry with Powell. Still, Jacobsen’s openness to future involvement leaves the door open for a different kind of partnership ahead. However, with the start of the football season ahead, it’s imperative that station management land on an option for the Seahawks Super Bowl title defense to begin the lineup every weekday.
