CBS Sports NFL analyst Tony Romo was arrested Thursday night in Milwaukee. The former Cowboys quarterback now faces an operating-while-intoxicated charge, his first offense.
What We Know: According to FOX5 in Milwaukee, authorities stopped Romo while he drove southbound on I-43’s high-rise bridge. According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office. he performed poorly on standardized field sobriety tests. Officers booked him for first-offense OWI, then released him. Romo, who joined CBS as a color commentator after retiring in 2017, is now the network’s lead NFL analyst.
What Remains Unclear: Formal charges haven’t been filed yet. Meanwhile, CBS hasn’t issued any public comment on the arrest. According to local reporting, Wisconsin generally treats first-offense OWI as a civil matter rather than a criminal one.
What It Means: Romo’s court date, set for September 21, falls squarely within the NFL season. Therefore, the timing raises questions about his upcoming broadcast schedule. Romo is CBS Sports’ top analyst alongside Jim Nantz. Whether or not Romo will face any punishment from CBS Sports is yet to be determined.
