TJ Johnson Returns to K99.1 Dayton Country Radio

"He knows this market, he knows radio, and he brings a great energy to the evening."

Date:

What We Know K99.1 (WHKO-FM), a Cox Media Group country station in Dayton, announced Johnson’s arrival from the Northeast. He spent recent months hosting weekends at 106.1 WBLI, a top-40 station in Patchogue, New York. However, Johnson knows the Dayton radio landscape well. He spent four years behind the microphone at Hot 102.9 (WDHT), the market’s hip-hop outlet, from 2016 through 2020.

What They Said Johnson framed his return as full-circle momentum. “I’m really excited to be back on the air in Dayton,” he shared, adding that reconnecting with the market while hosting New Country Nights “is pretty special.” Meanwhile, Program Director Nancy Wilson, who also hosts mornings at K99.1, praised the outgoing host. Wilson said, “Jordan has been such an important part of K99.1 and New Country Nights for nearly ten years.” She expressed confidence in Johnson’s fit, noting, “He knows this market, he knows radio, and he brings a great energy to the evening.”

What Remains Unclear K99.1’s timeline for transitioning nights remains unconfirmed. Additionally, no details emerged about how the station plans to promote Johnson’s return or what The New Country Nights branding adjustments might include.

What It Means The move marks a significant shift after a decade of consistency at nights. Johnson’s prior ties to Dayton and his established radio experience suggest a strategic continuity play. Importantly, departing host Michael “Slater” Wheaton, who held nights as “Jordan Knight,” advances to K92.3 (WWKA) in Orlando as morning co-host. Thus, K99.1 gains local market knowledge while building deeper bench strength.
