John Schriffen’s Status Reportedly Unknown Regarding Immediate Future With Chicago White Sox

"We understand that it's the time of year when these questions come up, but we are focused solely on the postseason."

Date:

The Chicago White Sox are making an improbable playoff run advancing for the first time in 21 years in the MLB postseason. Meanwhile, play-by-play voice John Schriffen’s future in the booth is reportedly uncertain moving into next season.

What We Know: According to MLB.com, Schriffen’s contract expires at the end of this season. Furthermore, Front Office Sports is reporting there have been no recent renewal talks regarding his agreement. Schriffen joined Steve Stone in the booth in 2024, replacing Jason Benetti, who left to call Detroit Tigers games. Beyond Chicago, Schriffen also calls multiple sports for ESPN and UFC events on Paramount+.

What They Said: Chicago White Sox spokesperson (via Front Office Sports): “We understand that it’s the time of year when these questions come up, but we are focused solely on the postseason.”

What Remains Unclear: Still, no one has officially confirmed Schriffen’s status for next season. His tenure has also included some turbulence. During his first season, he traded barbs with Chicago sports talk station 104.3 The Score. If Schriffen departs, the club would have their third play by play voice since Ken “Hawk” Harrelson departed the club in 2018.

What It Means: For now, the focus is on October for the southside of Chicago. After going 84-78 and earning a Wild Card berth, the White Sox swept the Houston Astros. Next, they visit the Cleveland Guardians for ALDS Game 1 on Saturday. Whether or not Schriffen returns to the White Sox does remain a mystery for now. However, expecting any resolution ahead of the end of the team’s postseason run will likely not be the case.
